A day by boat on the French Riviera is only complete if it includes a good table by the sea. And the region is full of restaurants accessible only — or ideally — by boat. From feet in the water to starred terraces, here is our address book of must-visit gastronomic stops between Saint-Tropez and Porquerolles.
Saint-Tropez and its surroundings
Old port restaurants
If you use our boat taxi service from Pampelonne, you will arrive right in the heart of Saint-Tropez. The old port offers an unrivalled concentration of restaurants, from popular brasseries to gastronomic tables.
The atmosphere around the port of Saint-Tropez is unique: the most beautiful yachts in the world rub shoulders, the terraces overflow with life, and the fish of the gulf feature on every menu. Absolutely book ahead in summer.
Club 55 — Pampelonne
It is impossible to talk about dining at Pampelonne without mentioning Club 55. Founded in 1955 during the filming of "And God Created Woman" with Brigitte Bardot, it is today one of the most famous beach restaurants in the world.
The address is directly accessible from your rigid inflatable by anchoring near Pampelonne beach. The cuisine is simple, precise and exceptionally fresh: salade niçoise, grilled fish, Var rosé. An institution.
Porquerolles — the gourmet island
Mas du Langoustier restaurant
At the western tip of Porquerolles, the Mas du Langoustier is the benchmark gastronomic address on the island. Accessible only by boat (no road to the Langoustier), the restaurant offers refined Mediterranean cuisine, with local produce prepared with precision.
The terrace overlooks a private cove of absolute beauty. It is one of the most elegant experiences the French Riviera can offer. Reservation essential, very far in advance in season.
"Arriving at the Langoustier by boat, anchoring in the cove, having lunch on the terrace with a sea view… It is one of the most memorable experiences the Mediterranean can offer."
L'Oustaou de la Mar — Porquerolles
More accessible and more relaxed than the Langoustier, L'Oustaou de la Mar is located directly on the port of Porquerolles. Provençal cuisine, fresh fish, a shaded atmosphere under centuries-old pine trees. A perfect lunch after a morning of swimming in the island's waters.
Port-Cros — dining in the heart of the national park
Port-Cros has one restaurant on the island, directly on the harbour. The menu is short but of quality, focused on local catch and traditional Mediterranean cuisine. The atmosphere is intimate and unspoiled — no glitz, no show, just the sea, the pines and the table.
Le Lavandou — authentic Var coast
Between Saint-Tropez and the Hyères Islands, Le Lavandou and its neighbouring villages offer more local and authentic gastronomy. Several waterfront restaurants are directly accessible by boat, with anchorages nearby and water taxis to reach the shore.
Bouillabaisse, grilled fish and seafood are at much more reasonable prices than in Saint-Tropez, for often equivalent quality.
Tips for a successful gastronomic stop
- Book ahead: in July-August, the best tables are fully booked weeks in advance
- Inform the restaurant of your arrival by boat: some have private buoys or quays for their customers
- Plan not to sail right after lunch: digestion and the sea don't mix!
- Opt for a lunch stop: cooler, cheaper, and you enjoy the afternoon at sea
- Try the local rosé: the Provence rosé from Côtes de Provence is the perfect pairing with Mediterranean fish
